Photo - Pt. JNK'Kamal' at Kanil Bagh in Baramulla,Kashmir Information
Description: |
''Dear K,
Shivratri Greetings from us all here........... I was glad to see the enlarged photograph of the interesting Siva-linga. It was taken at Kanil Bagh in Baramulla on the 25th Oct. 1987 where Anupam and I had gone with the Bharat (marriage procession) of Munna, the second son of our Chuni Lal Kaul.........I was surprized to see the idol of unusual size , and enquired about it. A sardar of the vicinity said that there were other two idols nearby and they were said to be there of the time of Kanishka. Neither Kashmiri Pandits nor Archeology has owned the area. It is predominated by Sikhs and a Gurudwara occupies the area. I had asked Bitaji (Romesh) to take the photo. He then gave me the negative and an enlarged photo also. But this is not as clear and big as the one you have sent. Perhaps that is why I wanted a copy from your hand. Please keep the negative in record.
Shivratri falls on the 15th Feb. It is an important and famous festival in India, more especially it was performed with much zeal and meaning in Kashmir. Just as Christmas in Europe. With love and peace. Yours affectionately JNK'' |
