Dr. Roop Krishen
Bhat
Dr. Roop Krishen Bhat is
a Linguist, Kashmiri Writer, translator and a
Media free lancer. Born at Anantnag in Jammu and
Kashmir state, he did his Graduation in Sciences
from the University of Kashmir, Masters and
Doctorate in Linguistics from the University of
Kurukshetra and Diploma in Russian from Punjabi
University Patiala.
Dr. Bhat has worked in the
areas of Language, Literature, Culture, Media
and Education He has been in educational
Administration in last sixteen years. Presently
he is working as Principal,Northern
Regional Language Centre, MHRD, Govt.Of India,
at Patiala. His previous assignments have been
as Director, Directorate of Adult
Education, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, New
Delhi. Principal Publication officer at
the NCPUL, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India,
Assistant Educational Advisor, Ministry of
HRD, Programme Executive, AIR &
Lecturer NRLC Patiala.
Dr. Bhat writes in Kashmiri, Hindi, Urdu and
English and has written/edited/co-authored
twenty seven books and dozens of Research
Papers/Articles on Language, Linguistics,
Literature and Mass media.
As
a freelancer with both Print and Electronic
Media he has been contributing to several
magazines- newspapers on travel, tourism,
culture etc. and writing scripts, anchoring-
participating in various programmes of T V and
Radio.
Dr. Bhat has received Sahitya Academy’s
translation award for the year 2008 in
Kashmiri language, Acharya chatursen award
for literature by Sahitya Bharati and Pt.
Krishnajoo Razdan sarswati puruskar 2010 by
JKVM.
Dr. Bhat has visited U.K., Russian Federation,
Thailand, UAE for participating/organizing
Indian Cultural festivals, conferences and
seminars in these countries.
He is a cultural activist and has worked hard
for promotion of Kashmiri language and culture
especially after displacement of Kashmiris from
Kashmir. He is a life Trustee of “Kashmir
Cultural Trust” engaged in promotion of cultural
activities. A Life Member of “Linguistic Society
of India”, Kashmir Education, Culture and
Science Society, Indian Adult Education
Association and several other socio-cultural
NGOs.
