A Small Beginning

We wish our creations
to have sensations.

But can a robot smile?
And style is soon exhausted
words become vacuous,
like the clangings of a rock
in a jar,
the soul in the picture escapes
when you see it often enough.

Parrots talk
apes rage
pigeons find their homes
across wide seas
snakes slither
elephants remember.

Robots merely repeat
words and images fail.
